Yule or Midwinter is an old Pagan celebration of the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year.
In fact it isn’t one day, it’s 3 or 4 depending on the year. But it’s usually celebrated from the 20th December through to the 23rdish, and from this point on the days get longer, YAY.
Many of our well known Christmas celebrations come from Yule, the Yule log, the Tree, the wreath on the door, all of these things have their roots in the celebration of Yule.
It’s about celebrating the change in season, the time of year when you can’t plant or harvest, when its too dark to do anything outdoors, winter officially begins and we start to crawl towards spring at the end of March.
So Yuletide greetings to one and all!
