I adore baths. I can stay in the bath for a long time. Run the water add my bubbles, salts, oils etc, put on an audiobook and off I go.
It’s so relaxing. If I’ve had a bad day, either mentally or physically, a bath will make me feel better. It’s part of my self care. The things I do to help me look after myself.
I have Hypermobility Syndrome. This is a condition which effects my ligaments, tendons, skin and a few other things. Basically, my joints move way beyond where their supposed to and I can dislocate joints very easily.
Because of the damage which has been cause to my joints over the years I have arthritis in many joints and lots of ligament, tendon and nerve damage. If you would like to know more check out these websites;
Making sure I look after my body is a must. Pacing myself physically, being careful how I move and, if i’m in a lot of pain, resting.
Having a bath is incredible for easing muscles and joints and has the added bonus of smelling amazing!
I use a lot of products from Lush, they just smell so good. But I also make my own using Epsom salts, essential oils, herbs and flowers, almond oil and coconut oil.
A really easy recipe for muscle soothing bath salts is below, I use this regularly as does my sister.
Take a container, a jar, Tupperware, anything seal-able. Fill the container with salts of your choice, I use Epsom for ease.
- Put the salts in a bowl
- Add in a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil until you have your desired scent.
- Add your herbs, Pine Needles or Resin, eucalyptus leaves, meadowsweet, rosemary, St John’s wart. I also add Valerian to aid relaxation.
Put everything back into the jar and you’re done. You could add whatever oils or herbs you like and it takes minutes to do.
