How not to train your german shepherd and other life lessons

Ok, I’m weird, I know. I love housework.

Yep, you read that right, I love housework. I love cleaning and organising and one of my favourite things in the world is a sparkling home.

One job I hate, yes I know hate is a strong word but I really, really hate, washing up, Urgh.

We don’t have a dishwasher so it’s a good old fashioned sink and sponge. I will do every other housework task, cleaning the toilet, changing the beds, washing the windows, you name it I like doing it, except the washing up.

I don’t know what it is about it, I hate putting my hands in the water, even with gloves on, I hate cleaning out mugs and pans, I just hate it.

My husband does the majority of the washing up but not all, so I do have to do it every now and then but if I can avoid it, I will.

I would literally rather put my hand down the toilet bowl than in the washing up bowl. I can’t explain it, I know it’s weird, but there you go, washing up, hate it!!

  1. I read a vaguely neuroscienceish book earlier in the year that talked about two different areas of the brain; the amygdala and the cortex.

Amygdala is where unconscious associations are made and cortex is where conscious thoughts occur (broadly speaking).

If you don’t like washing up but are not sure why, it could be you had an experience at an early age involving a sink or something like it in some way and that your amygdala registered as being bad and something you should avoid.

If you happen to know a hypnotherapist or someone in a similar domain or psychology, it might be possible they could help you retrieve the memory although I guess that’s a long shot.
